Bentley Term License Factsheet

Every Bentley Perpetual License comes with a yearly maintenance subscription called SELECT.

With SELECT, you will benefit from:

  2. License Pooling – so you can share your license across your organisation
  3. Access to the latest Product Updates.
  4. Open Access to all Bentley Software with Term Licenses

Open Access is what gives all Bentley users the ability to use additional licenses which they do not own, in return for a Term License fee.

Advantages: A term license acts as a supplement to your perpetual licenses. This gives you the flexibility to use applications beyond your owned license pool, in return for a fee.

Disadvantages: Term Licenses are charged at a premium rate and if used consistently are not a cost-effective way to license Bentley products.

 

What is a term license?
A term license allows you to use more licenses than you own in return for a monthly or quarterly fee.
How is usage calculated?

Usage is determined by counting the total number of unique machines that access an application during each 10-minute interval throughout the day. The highest number of machines accessing an application during any one 10-minute interval during the quarter is the peak usage.

Bentley review usage in 10-minute intervals and as soon as your number of con-current users exceeds your license pool allocation, you will trigger a Term License ‘overage’.

What applications are impacted by a term license?

The Term License Model applies to all SELECT Users. This essentially applies to anyone who has an active Bentley contract.

When will I receive my invoice?

At the end of each calendar quarter, Bentley reviews your usage for each application. Bentley compare your peak usage to your owned license pool. If your usage exceeds your owned license pool, you will receive a term license invoice approximately one week after the end of the quarter for the number of licenses which you exceeded by.

What are my alternatives to Term Licences?

Are there ways to prevent term licenses?
Unfortunately there is no way to lock your users out of an application. The best way to prevent Term Licenses is to ensure your team is educated on how Bentley counts usage.
